Step 1: Submit Your Idea
Considering the common challenges that any home or school faces (i.e. efficiency, safety, cleanliness) create new concepts for your home or school using glass to improve quality of life, solve a common problem, or introduce a new idea that can be integrated into either setting.
In 250 words or less, submit a design solution and explain how your glass concept will work. This can
include glass on its own, or glass as a component of your solution considering how it can improve quality
of life, such as enhancing productivity, comfort, design, or creativity.
Be sure to answer the following questions within your summary.
- What is your innovation? How does it work?
- What is the problem your product or service will solve?
- How does it solve an issue or improve our everyday lives?
- Who are your customers and why will they buy your product or service?
- Who is your competition and how will your product be better than the competitors?
(optional)
The judges will review all entries and rate them based on the following criteria: grammar and articulation,
innovation originality, clear and concise answering of the 4/5 (5th being optional) questions within the survey, as well as the passion for the innovation. The top three students with the highest scores amongst all the judges will be selected as our finalists.
Any entries that include inappropriate or offensive content or that violate any applicable laws will be automatically disqualified.
Step 2: Pitch Your Idea
The top three finalists will be selected in mid-February and invited to attend a virtual meeting where you will have the opportunity to pitch your innovation to the judges. To learn more about the judges, see the “Meet the Judges” section at www.schott.com/en-us/schott-innovation-challenge-2024.
The live presentation sessions will consist of the following:
- Five-minute pitch presentation of your innovation.
- Five-minute question and answer session with the judges.
- Judging period, after all presentations have commenced.
The judges will evaluate pitches based on articulation, preparation, creativity/design, and usefulness of
the innovation to identify the students who will be placed as the first, second, and third-place winners.
Slides and/or visuals are highly recommended during the presentation. Presentations should focus on the
problem/solution, customers, and competition. Additional information will be shared with the three finalists
once they have been selected.
