Applications of Glass Tubing with High UV Transmission
UV-C lighting
Since UV-C radiation damages the genetic makeup of viruses and microorganisms, it’s widely used for germicidal lamps to sterilize surfaces and objects. UV-C disinfection devices work with wavelengths around 254 nm, making SCHOTT 8337B, RayVolution® D 99 and 8347 ideal for UV-C purifying devices such as UVC-LEDs.
UV-light sensors
The hermetic sealing with electrodes and excellent light transmission provided by SCHOTT glasses make them perfect for UV radiation sensor systems that require high transmission of UV light. For example for Photomultiplier tubes or flame sensors. Glasses such as the UV-C-transmitting 8337B are ideal for housing for such sensors since they achieve a tight glass-to-metal seal.
UV CCL
SCHOTT provides a range of industries with glass components for medical lamps. SCHOTT RayVolution is highly suitable for germicidal lighting due to its high resistance to solarization, as well as its consistent and efficient long-term UV transmission. Cost-effective, high-yield lamp processing is also made possible thanks to the high dimensional accuracy of our tubing.
UV flash lamps
The efficiency of UV flash lamps depends on the tight seal between the glass in their bulbs and the metal electrode. By creating a tight, impermeable seal with tungsten or Kovar, 8337B ensures no contaminant gases enter the lamp, extending its lifetime.
